Baby Memory Quilt

What sweet memories have been saved in the quilt! I took 30 baby outfits and created this 32x42 quilt. The mom wanted it bordered and backed with purple. This quilt has been machine quilted around each block. I love how it turned out!

Fabric Finds

Look at this great loot I found! All yard or 1/2 yard cuts. That cute little Eric Carle caterpillar is 44 inches long, there's a sunrise you cannot see folded under. He was an amazing find :)
I also found these precious girl prints... Purses, dots, and little girls. So sweet!

I am thinking of little baby quilts to sell out of these :)

I have some more awesome fabric I've picked up recently that I need to get a photo of and put on the shelf. Check back for fabric updates!

I love October! It is my favorite month, state fair, fall weather, my birthday, fall break, etc, etc. This little cutie is from the book Count On It by Art to Heart. It is a mini quilt (12x12) hanging on a great little frame from ackfield. Each letter and bat was machine appliqued on. I just love the color combo on this one!

Capes!

How much fun would a kid have with these capes? LOTS! I have 2 or 3 of each design: Robots backed in blue, black and green, Zebra Hearts backed in black and pink polka dot, and Space Capers backed in green and blue!

Each have colored Velcro closures at the neck and are the perfect weight for flying around the house!

Craft Fair

I did my first craft show today. It was a great experience and hope to do more!

Little League Quilt

I think I am going to title this quilt the Little League Quilt. I gathered these shirts to make a sample to take with me to craft fairs. I have wanted to do one of these type of quilts for a long time. I think it would be neat to have a quilt made up of your child's sports shirts. What great memories!

Bibs and Burp Cloths

I am in love with these little boy prints...

The dinosaur bib and burp cloth are backed in a soft red flannel.

The robot set is backed with soft royal blue flannel

Little girl sets. I have 2 of the brown and pink strips. Each burp cloth is striped on one side, soft chocolate brown on the other. The bibs are striped on one side and brown and white dots on the opposite. They are reversible.

In the middle we have a fun floral print. The burp cloth is backed in a white t-shirt material and the bib is backed in hot pink.

Spring Strings

I am in love with my newest quilt. I just love everything about it. The colors, the pattern, the binding, the quilting, etc, etc, etc. I even love the back! It is machine pieced, machine quilted, and hand bound.

Baby Gift Set

Merry Christmas (in August)

I am in love with my newest quilt... It has 2 different types of quilting on it. Stitch in the ditch around the polka dot and Christmas tree borders and stippling around all the letters in Merry Christmas. I also appliqued every letter for Merry Christmas on the quilt. I just love how it turned out.

I used lots of different prints for the front. The red dots are Riley Blake

The back is just as cute to me. I love those skating elves! This is Ice Skating Elves in Moss/Aqua. It is part of last years 12 Days of Christmas line by Moda.

Arrrrggg! A Pirate Cape for T

I think I live the back just as much as the front. Those reds and whites together just look so great!

Custom Pilllows

I had a sweet neighbor Facebook that she wanted some pillows made and of course I jumped on it! I think they turned out great! I love the fabric choice.

I think they look good on my couch Julie! :)

Here is an up close on the hidden zipper. This will make it much easier for Julie to clean the pillowcases.

And a business card attached to each pillow in the corner. I just love those cute little cards!

Stephanie's Quilt Pillow

I've been waiting to post this until Stephanie received it as I didn't want to ruin the surprise! She washed her grandmother's quilt and it was ruined beyond repair. She asked me to do something with it and this is what I came up with for her.

I took 4 of the quilt blocks from the quilt and put them together. I picked the ones without any major damage. I also found a teeny, tiny blue flower print to use for the back. I once again did an envelope design.

Envelope Pillows

My couch needed some new pillows but I wanted something that I could wash when they got dirty. This is what I came up with.

What I like best is the back. Both pieces of fabric overlap and makes an envelope design. This make the pillowcase removable for easy cleaning!

In the above picture you can see that I have opened up the "envelope" to show the pillow form inside.

I had a very good friend talk me into buying this Dr. Seuss Kit from Linderella's Quilt Works. I had wanted it for so long, but couldn't justify buying it. Thanks to a 20% off coupon, I was able to get it without feeling so guilty! So this week, I put my mind to it and finished the top! I am waiting until I take a stippling class next week to quilt it.

iPad 2 Sleeve

Made this cute little sleeve to match my iPad 2. It is lined with fleece and has batting in the middle for extra protection. I also added a small pocket to the front for the cords.

A Wedding Cake...

So I branched out for a dear friend and made a wedding cake. Top layer was white cake with buttercream, middle is red velvet with cream cheese icing, and the big bottom layer is white cake with buttercream. The cake is covered with homemade marshmallow fondant to achieve a very smooth look. The bride wanted a ribbon at the bottom of each layer and little dots all around the edge.

This was a cute little triple chocolate cake with buttercream icing for my little brother's High School Graduation. I went with a very simple design, and a Star Wars theme. I thought for my first attempt at fondant it turned out great.

2 Twinkie Cowgirls

This was a sweet little custom order for a premie set of twin girls. Their Daddy calls them twinkies, so the idea for this came from that. Two long sleeve onesies with cuffs and matching yo-yo headbands.

Here is an upclose of the yo-yo headband. Sweet little lace elastic with a yellow yo-yo, with a button in the center.

Whoooo's Cute Little Onesie?

This was a custom order for a baby gift and since the gift has been given I can finally post it! I just love how he turned out. Whooooo knew that green would be so flattering for an owl? :)

He would also look good as a she with a sweet heart on the belly. I have tons and tons of cute fabrics for this one!

My sweet cousin is having her first baby soon! As a shower gift I decided to make her a quilt, something sweet and simple and of course, PINK cause its gonna be a precious baby girl!

Please pardon my terrible pictures. I forgot to take pictures until the last possible second and I had to unroll the quilt and take them with my phone really quickly.

I went with a rail fence design in pink, white, and mint green. The crib quilt is backed with a super soft pink and white dotted fabric.

Here is a close up of the fabrics, like I said, please pardon the wrinkles. I am hoping as soon as sweet little Taylor gets here that I will get some better pictures up.

I am working on a few onesie orders and the most adorable baby quilt in my sewing studio today. But since those are presents and orders that the special folks they are made for have not seen, then I cannot show them to you yet. But I will share the order that I delivered this week. It is for the same sweet lady who ordered the nursery set. She wanted a couple of outfits made so the new baby boy would match his sister. Too Cute!

First we have an adorable paisley elephant. This is appliqued to a onesie to match his sister's top.

Here we have a pillowcase top made from an original pillowcase dress pattern bought from Foot Loose and Fancy Free on etsy. I highly recommend her patterns, easy to follow and she was wonderful to work with! Thank you so much Sandra for this wonderful pattern. I have a cousin that is having a sweet baby girl soon and I can see a couple of pillowcase dresses in her future :)

Here they are together. I think they look great! I have to give all the fabric choice credits to the sweet mom-to-be! What a great eye for color combos. The elephant pattern is another great etsy find. If you are interested in cute PDF outlines, check out Angel Lea Designs I just love how great all etsy sellers are!

She also wanted a couple of tie onesies. I love love love making these! I think they are so cute and hilarious. Since we don't know how big little man is going to be when he makes his apperance she asked me to do 2 with the same time pattern in 2 different sizes. Too sweet.

Not to be left out I did a "pearl necklace" for the sister. Now they have their choice of matching outfits to wear home from the hospital. I love the way the pearls turned out, it was my first time doing this. I think I will be using it again!

Here are the 2 tie onesies along with the pearl necklace shirt. So sweet!

Chair Redo

I loved this chair when I spotted it in Goodwill. I loved it even more when I saw it was $6.00 and already painted white. I dragged it to the front of the store and paid the lady, shoved it in the car and knew what I wanted to happen to it. And then it happened, you know life, and I never got around to the chair...

And there is sat, in the corner of my sewing studio until the ice storm came, and I had 2 days off from work and I remembered the chair that I wanted to redo so badly...

I absolutely love it and could kick myself for waiting so long to recover that cushion!

Baby Crib Set

I was thrilled when I was asked to make this set! A friend of mine is having her first baby, a boy, and wanted a special crib set. This was the first time I had ever made anything like this, and I think it turned out very well!

NC State Quilt

This Queen Sized NC State Quilt was an order I did for a college freshman who is a die hard fan! His mom asked me to make this as a surprise for his birthday. I went with a simple, more masculine pattern. Wide strips to show off the fabrics. I was very happy to find 2 different cotton NC State fabrics.

A Crutch Clutch

This was a little pocket that I made for a friend that hurt her ankle and had to be on crutches. She called me with this idea of something that could hold the remote and a pencil. So I got to work. It turned out really cute and she liked it a lot.

I put some sewing supplies inside so that you could see how big it is and what it will hold.

As teachers we get lots of free tote bags. I wanted two bags that my "star students" could take home and bring back a few things to share with the class in. I took two freebie bags and added the cutest little panels that were given to me by a friend. So this project cost me $0.00, I love that!

A Vintage Bag

I made this cute tote awhile back and it never made it on the blog. This large tote is made out of vintage fabric that I bought at a antique festival. I love the color and the pattern.

Candy Bouquet

My sweet little cousin was in a production of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Being 6 years old, what would you rather have candy or flowers. Candy! This cute little candy bouquet is made with all Willy Wonka Candy (see a theme?). The A in the center is for her name, Ava.

Cindy's Andy Griffith Quilt

I am pleased with how this tacked couch throw turned out! Cindy came to me at work and asked if I could take her Andy Griffith shirts and make a throw for her. We got all the details worked out and this is what was made.

Here are all the blocks laid out in their final design. For the top and bottom I took a single 15x15 block and halved it. One half went to the top, the other half went to the bottom. The 9 main designs went in the middle. Don't you just love the Barney one in the top left corner?

Here it is completed, hanging on my cutting table.

We went with a navy blue flannel for the back and border. Each corner was tacked with navy thread.

Cute little x's in each corner, this is what "tacking" looks like without buttons.

I hope that Cindy loves her quilt, I really enjoyed making it!

Baby Diaper Wreath

Here's a cute little gift I made for a friend having a little baby girl. I think it turned out super cute.

It is completely made of diapers! She was using an elephant theme in the nursery, so that was the reason for the perfect little frame attached to the bottom.

A Baby Boy's Quilt

A friend from High School contacted me about making a quilt for her on the way baby boy! I was excited to make a baby quilt, there is so many wonderful prints out there for children! She already had her theme, sports. After checking out all the available fabric in our area, I went with all baseball prints. I think it is precious!

I love the way the stripes make it playful and really let you focus on the fabrics. It is backed with a super soft flannel and is quilted with a low loft batting to make it extra cuddly!

Cindy's Vacation Quilt

Cindy wanted another quilt made, this time with her shirts she had saved from vacations she's taken. I think it turned out really really well! It is backed with soft flannel and is very cuddly and cute! You can see in the center that I took the pocket designs from 4 shirts and combined them to make 2 blocks.

-Etsy.com: A fabulous website of handmade items. I have given and received gifts from Etsy and have always been so pleased with what I have bought. The garters for my wedding were ordered from Etsy at a great price. You can find any and everything on Etsy!

-Stationary and Stamps: I love writing cards and notes. There is just something about recieving real mail and knowing someone took the time to create something so special.

-Green Gifts: We all want the world be better place, why not express it in gifts? A cute reusable shopping tote, some new energy efficent light bulbs, stationary on recycled paper, the ideas are endless!

Sheila's T-Shirt Blanket Complete!

Its completed! I think it turned out great, so cuddly and soft!

20 of Andrew and Sheila's shirts made into this large couch throw (it is laying on a Queen sized bed). Instead of having batting in the middle, this is backed with flannel. It has been hand tacked at every shirt square corner. Perfect for movie night at home!

Sheila's T-Shirt Blanket in Progress

A friend of mine from college contacted me last month about making a t-shirt blanket for her. I told her I would love to do it! Sheila, her husband Andrew and 2 young children are going overseas to do mission work and this blanket is a "Sheila and Andrew" memory blanket, with t-shirts from them both.

I have been working on them for awhile now and I got all the shirts cut, interfaced, and measured. Here they are all laid out... please ignore Dad's exercise bike! Haha! Mom and Dad's house has a big open floor for me to lay my quilts out in.

I love the colors in this quilt. Sheila asked for a soft gray or another neutral for the backing. It will be tacked in the corners and there will be no batting in the middle. It will make a fantastic blanket to snuggle up with for a good story!

I had to take a picture of my favorite block... This is my favorite for a lot of reasons:

1. It is the shirt Sheila was wearing when Andrew proposed *Awwww*
2. It has lime green stripes
3. Isn't that strawberry too cute?
4. Buttons, I love buttons.
5. This is the first time I have ever included something besides a T-Shirt in a blanket/quilt. This shirt was a polo. Thanks for being so trusting with that Sheila, I think it turned out great!

Now to get each block sewn together and to get that backing on it and it is off to Sheila and Andrew to enjoy!

Mom's Coin Quilt

Mom has been kind of hinting that all the quilts that I make go to other people, and I think she wanted one of her own. Well, I decided to surprise her for her birthday with an adorable yellow coin quilt. I chose yellow for many reasons.... 1. My mom sits in a rocking chair in their dining area and watches TV and uses her laptop, their kitchen is yellow 2. When I was growing up yellow was my favorite color 3. It is such a sunshiny happy color to sew!

So I have had this quilt completed for about a month now, but I finally got to give it to my mom tonight! So here are pictures of the little yellow coin quilt.

This is the front and the back. Each yellow rectangle is 1.5x3.5 with 2 inch white sashing. Each row of yellow has 18 different yellow prints, doubled for 36 coins per row. I did "stitch in the ditch" for each row to quilt it.

I just love the back fabric! It looks like yellow bubbles!

Father's Day

I really enjoyed making these few little goodies for my Daddy for Father's Day. My Dad loves to the play the guitar and goes out a few times a week to play with friends. He mentioned to me a while back that he wishes he had a way to pick his guitar case out from everyone else's quickly. So I thought that making a little luggage handle roll to velcro around his guitar case handle was perfect. Well then I still had fabric left over, so I decided to make a guitar strap too. I made it fully adjustable and it has thick webbing underneath the decorative fabirc so no guitar droppsies!

The wooden guitar picks were ordered from a wonderful website called Etsy. These picks were hand carved, they are gorgeous.

2 Couch Throws and A New Block

I have been busy busy with making Carolina Courage quilts! After a few people saw the one that I made previously I had 2 orders for them! So I have just finished 2 couch sized UNC rail fence quilts. I love them, they are beautiful!

Here is a little gem I am working on for Matt and I. It is called a Whirlygiggle Block. Don't you just love that? When you see multiples together they look like they are turning pinwheels.

Jessica's Quilt

Jessica had a really neat idea for a quilt. She wanted a "House Divided" quilt. ECU colors on one side and State fabric on the other. I really like the way it turned out.

This one is also a rail fence pattern, which is so nice for college colors!

Here's a look at part of the process that goes into making these quilts...

I stabilize and cut each back with a rotary cutter.

Ta Da! One block ready to be sewn! Only 25 more to go...

For this quilt, I didn't have quite enough shirts to make the size Stephanie wanted so I was able to take the pocket designs off of her shirts and combine them with solid shirt colors to make more blocks!

I added these blocks along with the 26 others to make a nice Queen Size quilt top.

Then, I make a "quilt sandwich": quilt top, batting, and UNC fabric (for the back). I then machine quilt around each square. Here's a little look at me quilting along...

Finally, I add the binding around the edges and its ready to go!

And here it is bundled up and ready to go!

Stephanie had 4 shirts from High School she wanted something out of. I thought a long barrel style pillow would be perfect!

Side one: 2 shirt backs

Side two: 2 shirts pieces plus pocket designs

Very cute way to use just a few shirts!

This is a quilt I made for a boy who was diagnosed with leukemia. He is a student at the school where I teach and we made a little goody basket for him and this was part of it. It is 44x60, a perfect couch throw.

The pattern is called a Rail Fence in the 3 UNC colors. This pattern is GREAT for college quilts since it uses 3 colors. The back is UNC Chapel Hill fabric.

Here it is, bundled up and ready to go!

Amy's T-Shirt Quilt

Amy's Paul Frank T-Shirt Quilt was the very first T-Shirt Quilt I made. It was 9x9 blocks and I tacked it with buttons, no batting or machine quilting. I really love how it turned out, very fun and playful. The back is lined with a cotton fleece which made it oh so soft and cuddly! Perfect for the couch! Final measurements: 44 x 53

Amy had 15 shirts. I used the front logo for one block and a matching plain colored block out of the back of the shirt.

This is a good picture on the back of the quilt. Kelly Green, one of my favorite colors.

Ava's Quilt

This was the first quilt I ever made as a gift. This is my little cousin Ava's baby quilt. I found the back fabric and then super soft cotton squares to match it. I machine sewed the blocks together and then the quilt was hand tied at the corners with yellow yarn. The binding was attached by machine. It is a simple design but every so cute!
